I know you guys have been bombarded with wood sales lately so I am posting this just for your info. I have some nice Ribbon Striped Sapele that will be on Special for all OLF members as long as I can get it. You can also reserve a set or two.

Bob--Suppose I could stack about four of those to make an archtop?

Sure Nelson. The glue lines would look cool after carving.

Does anybody have a picture of this ribbon striped sapele on a finished guitar. I hate to buy three sets and not really know what it looks like under lacquer.

Colby, don't worry. This wood absolutely transforms itself under a finish. I currently am finishing a guitar with ribbon-stripe sapele back & sides (purchased from LMI) & it is really gorgeous. There is a deep 3-D effect to the grain under a finish - very lovely. Also, this wood behaves much like mahogany in that it starts out light brown & UV light will turn it darker & more towards red over time. So you don't need to stain or dye but that will work too. It has mahogany-like pores too so stock up on Z-poxy finishing resin for filling.

Abe Wechter, when he was making 'em one-at-a-time, used ribbon-striped sapele extensively. If it's good enough for Abe, it's good enough for me! And, yeah, it shimmers like silk under finish.CarltonM38562.7330439815

I have one in progress. It'll probably be a month or so before it gets buffed out though.

Here's a sample piece with a couple coats of shellac on it. Should give a pretty good idea of how it looks under finish. Nice looking guitar Jimmy.

They will look great. The Taylor 310 series used ribbon sapele but have a matte finish.
